RIP Frank Powney


Frank Powney passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday 18th February, age 95.

 

Frank was a life long member of the Phoenix, joining at age 16 in 1947.

 

He was club champion in 1954 and with his older brother Ron, was the first Phoenix members to break national records.

2nd October 55, Land's End to London, 289 miles in 13 hours and 27 mins.

11th October 59, Cardiff to London (via Gloucester), 160 miles in 6 hours 37 mins.

31st July 60, London to Worthing and back in 4 hours 38 mins 16 secs.

 

His wife Evelyn, passed away last year and they had two children, daughter Deborah and son Neil.

 

His funeral is arranged for Wednesday 18th March, at 4.15pm at Randall's Park, Leatherhead.
